He is a writer and producer, known for L.A. Confidential (1997), Street Kings (2008) and The Black Dahlia (2006). L.A. Confidential (titre original : L.A. Confidential) est un roman policier historique de James Ellroy paru aux États-Unis en 1990.C'est le troisième tome du Quatuor de Los Angeles : L.A. Confidential suit Le Grand Nulle part et précède White Jazz (). James Ellroy skriver med en mycket karakteristisk "telegramstil", bestående av många korta meningar och meningsfragment. Hans tidigare verk kan sägas vara mer traditionella kriminalromaner, men i och med American Tabloid ( En amerikansk myt ) kom han att omfatta nationella politiska intriger och en utveckling av sin komplexa samhällssyn. Footnote: Ellroy was asked by a member of a book talk audience if he wasn't guilty of overdoing his staccato style just a touch and Ellroy, apparently an absolute pussycat, agreed that, yeh, she was probably right. Personally, I can't get enough of it.
